Giorgos Varoutas (b.1980) is a guitar player and sound artist based in Athens, Greece.
 
His main field of work involves the evolution of alternative approaches to the guitar through extended techniques and the application of effects and software as well as the reinterpretation and treatment (live sound processing) of acoustic instruments.
 
He is founding member of the Greek experimental bands Vault of Blossomed Ropes, Liminal Vanguard and Skraut as well as being a member of the international musical collective, Lüüp.
 
He has participated, both as a performer and as a sound artist, in a range of international projects that involve hybrid experiments that bring together contemporary electronic and traditional world music.
 
His collaborations in performance and discography include Steve Jansen, Ko Ishikawa, Chris Cutler, Jan Bang, Arve Henriksen, Kraig Grady, Anna Linardou, Nikos Sidirokastritis, Harris Lambrakis, Vasso Dimitriou, Nikos Fokas, Stelios Romaliadis, Simos Riniotis a.o.

In January 2018 his debut solo album ''Chronostasis'' was released by Chris Cutler's label, ReR Megacorp.


Since December 2023 he curates the series of concerts ''Ostomachion Sessions'' which are held in Athens and host some of the most prominent improvisers from Greece and abroad, within a certain context that aims to explore the live interαction between
acoustic and digital Instruments.
