GIORGOS VAROUTAS
Giorgos Varoutas is a sound artist working at the intersection of musical tradition and contemporary improvisational practice. His work focuses on the interaction between acoustic instruments-often rare or ancient-voice, and live analog–digital processing, treating sound as an active, transformable material rather than a fixed artifact.
His practice explores how instrumental performance and extended sound-production techniques coexist with processed electronics and real-time digital manipulation. Within this hybrid field, sonic material is continuously reassembled and reshaped, forming an organic, “Fourth World”- like soundscape where the primal and the futuristic converge.
He has participated in international projects blending diverse musical traditions with electronic music and has collaborated with artists such as Steve Jansen, Ko Ishikawa, Chris Cutler, Jan Bang, Arve Henriksen, Anna Linardou, Harris Lambrakis, Kraig Grady, and Gareth Davis, among others. A founding member of Vault of Blossomed Ropes and Skraut, he released his debut solo album Chronostasis (ReR Megacorp) in 2018.
Since late 2023, he curates the Ostomachion Sessions, a concert series dedicated to exploring the live interplay between acoustic and digital instruments, emphasizing experimental performance, improvisation, and the continuous transformation of sound.
