Ostomachion sessions
Improvised interactions with Sound Fragments-
An Exploration of the Interplay between Acoustic and Digital Instruments
The series of concerts reflect the idea of forming shapes using the Ostomachion puzzle concept.
The Ostomachion puzzle is an ancient Greek puzzle that involves forming different shapes using various pieces. Similarly, live processing of acoustic instruments involves taking sound fragments and forming them into new shapes. This technique involves the use of digital signal processing tools to manipulate the sound of acoustic instruments as they are being played, creating new and unique sounds in real-time.
The idea is to take the sound produced by the instruments, manipulate it using various techniques. The processed sound is then fed back to the musicians, who can use it to create a new interaction with their instruments. This creates a feedback loop that enhances the improvisational nature of the performance which is different every time it is played.
In terms of the actual concerts, Ostomachion Sessions will present two improvisers who will interact with an electronic musician. The goal would be to explore in live performance the sonic possibilities of the acoustic instruments through extended/idiomatic techniques and to interact with live sound processing in order to create new sonic territories that blur the line between acoustic and electronic music.
