Is there such a thing as retroactive utopia? If the longing for an idealized future, a perfect and totalizing projection of our personal vision of “good”, is by its very nature impracticable, then this would be equivalent to taking refuge in an uncorrupted past, perhaps one that never even existed, dissociated from the documented history of mankind – glorious in its works, mostly deplorable in its actions.
